Peipiao Mines 0-4-0 Locomotives in China

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 15409)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 78, pp. 360. Works numbers were 58435 in May 1925.

The Peipao coal fields were described in 1921 as holding a "bituminous variety of excellent quality", indeed "superior to much of the coal ...mined in North China." The railway rolled on 60 lb/yard (30 kg/metre) rail up relatively modest 1.25% grades.

This saddle tank was ordered with a copper top on the stack, but the specs expressly stated that the tubes were "NOT to be welded to fire box tube sheet."
