Yunnan Kopei 0-8-0 Locomotives in China

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 9 (Locobase 14631)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 60, pp. 146. Works numbers were 54481-54484 in January 1921.

Differences in how locomotives of similar type were put to work depending on conditions are shown by the Baldwin specification's description of these little tanks' service as "passenger and freight." Obviously the line was small and lightly built and its administration could scarcely afford to roster specialized locomotives. Although undoubtedly slow-moving, these engines had the power to handle the 3% grades and curve radii of 40 metres (131 feet).
