Canton-Hankow 2-6-2 Locomotives in China

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 3 (Locobase 20201)

Data from Catalogue 10036--Locomotives for Export (New York City, April 1910), pp. 83-84. Works numbers were 41970-41972 in July 1908.

A confusion over railway names stopped Locobase for a little while, but he came to believe that "Yueh Han" didn't represent a particular railway, but perhaps "railway" itself. He couldn't confirm.

Acting on his hypothesis, Locobase went with the locomotive's number 3 and assigned this entry to Paterson, NJ's Cooke Works. Adding to the confusion, the Alco works numbers seem to be out of sequence when compared to other 1908 deliveries.

Just to cover his bases, he notes that Alco's Brooks Works in Dunkirk, NY delivered three Prairie tanks with identical cylinder dimensions and driver diameters to the "Yueh Han" as that "railway's" 5-7.
