Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class YJ (Yuejin/Leap Forward) (Locobase 2162)

YJ production only lasted three years, ending in 1961. Source [] Production ran from 1958-1961. The first 80 came from the Tangshan Railway Vehicle works. Jinan Railway Vehicle Equipment Company supplied 117 and two smaller works--Mudanjiang (3).and Wuchang (2)--delivered 5.

The cylinder dimension data refer to the first 80 locomotives. 201-250 were fitted with 482 mm diameter, 660 mm stroke cylinder. The last 70 used 510 mm cylinders stroking the same as the first 80.

Sources state that the design derived from the JF 2-6-2 (Locobase 4824); which served as the basis for the SY 2-8-2.
