Southern Manchuria 2-6-4 Locomotives in China

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 14414)

Data from "Tank Locomotives for the Southern Manchuria Railway," The Railway Age, Volume 45, No 5 (7 February 1908), pp. 187-188.

The RA report spotted the two principal differences between these five dozen tanks for Manchuria and the two dozen sold to Isthmian Canal Commission in 1906 (Locobase 11459): a reduction in gauge and a slight increase in engine wheelbase. Otherwise, the Chinese engines were duplicates of those then at work in Panama.
