Shanghai-Nanking 4-6-0 Locomotives in China

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class B3 (Locobase 2663)

Data from "Six-Coupled Bogie Locomotives Shanghai-Nanking Ry," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol XI (15 August 1905 ), p. 135. Works numbers were 16702-16709.

This was the freight engine among the variety of wheel arrangements that went into service at the same time with the same Belpaire boiler, cylinders, and valve motion. The LM report noted that this particular design benefited from a wide loading gauge, being produced as "a very powerful and well proportioned engine."

See Locobases 2662 for the 4-6-2T.
