Mukden Hailung 4-6-2 Locomotives in China

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 101 (Locobase 15464)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 79, pp. 446+. Works numbers were 60257-60261 in November 1927.

Bought six months after the similarly powered 2-6-0s built at Eddystone (Locobase 15463), these mixed-traffic Pacific tanks had the same power dimensions, but had slightly more boiler capacity. Like the Moguls, these engines's fireboxes gained very little supplemental direct heating surface area. In the Pacifics, the arch tubes added only 9 sq ft (8.35 sq m) to firebox heating surface.

The cylinders were supplied by 9 1/2" (241 mm) piston valves (same diameter as those of the 2-6-0s) that had shorter ports but a larger eccentric throw. A significant operational change was the provision for left-hand running.
