Class 201 (Locobase 15462)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 79, pp. 430+ . Works numbers were 60643-60644 in September 1928 and 60705-60706 in January 1929.

This designed used the boiler and firebox design of the Sorocabana three-cylinder Mountains delivered in 1924 and described in Locobase 15270. Its firebox heating surface area included 19 sq ft (1.75 sq m) of arch tubes. Each cylinder's 8" (203 mm) piston valve was actuated by its own valve gear.

Several years of service prompted a letter from C A Campbell dated 26 September 1933: "The Railway have [sic] had trouble due to breakage of the shop bolts and the big end of the main rod for the center cylinder. They have replaced the botls with ones made of nickel steel and on further trouble has been experienced since this change was made. The oil space on top of the driving boxes is insufficient and mechanical lubricants are being applied."

Most three-cylinder setups suffered from similar difficulties with maintaining that center cylinder.
