Santander-Timba 2-6-2 Locomotives in Colombia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class M J Olano (Locobase 15370)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 78, pp. 177+. See also Jorge Arias de Greiff, "Ferrocarriles en Colombia 1836-1930", Credencial Historica, No 257 at [link] and page 2 of "El Ferrocarril del Pacifico" at the Universidad del Valle website, [link]. Works number was 58554

The Santander-Timba was started in 1917 to link the IbaguT end of the Ambalema-IbaguT with the Ferrocarril del Pacifico. Or, says the second source, it was built in Cauca state as 22-km (13.7 mile) link to join the FC Cali-Popayán with Santander de Quilichao; completion came in 1927.

In any event, the locomotive with the lowest number was this Prairie of exactly the same design as a pair shipped from Baldwin to the FC del Pacifico a dozen years earlier (Locobase 13728). When taken into the Pacifico upon the merger of the two lines in 1932, the 1 was renumbered 1T.
