Ambalema-IbaguT 4-8-0 Locomotives in Colombia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 3 (Locobase 15429)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 79, pp. 108 See also Jorge Arias de Greiff, Un Momento Estelar de la Ingeniera Mecanica en Colombia: Los Disenos de Locomotoras de PC Dewhurst", Boletin Cultural y Bibliographico, Volumne XXVI, No. 21, 1989, pp.19-29. Works number was 60950 in August 1929.

See Locobase 15367 for a full discussion of PC Dewhurst's thoughts in designing the famed "Docerruedas" (Twelve-wheelers). This small railway joined the host of other Colombian railways in buying the particularly apt design, but couldn't resist tinkering with the boiler, deleting three of the tubes found in other Colombian 4-8-0s and substituting an additional flue for the superheater.

When the Ambalema-IbaguT was nationalized in 1953, the 3 was renumbered 73.
