Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 17 (Locobase 518)

Data from Gavin Hamilton's excellent compilation of Garratt data posted at [link], first accessed 6 September 2005; and [link] (31 December 2003); later revised to [link], last accessed 1 October 2022; and A[rthur] E[dward] Durrant, Garratt Locomotives of the World (revised edition) (Newton Abbott, UK: David & Charles, 1981), p 98.. Works numbers were 6843-6844 in 1937.

Hamilton noted that these Small Double Pacifics were the only Garratts to have been built for the metre gauge by Beyer, Peacock. Durrant described some details of construction, noting that the pair used bar frames and had the round-top boilers' fireboxes' direct heating surface area included that supplied by thermic syphons. They were to tackle the 1 in 50 (2%) grades encounterd between Marequita and Honda.

Both were withdrawn by 1955.
