Central Fe 0-6-2 Locomotives in Cuba

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Lutgarda (Locobase 14372)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 54, p. 77. Works number was 44426 in November 1916.

The plantation that ordered this radial tank was formally known as the Central Fidencia, but "Central Fe" was how the engine's lettering identified the sugar processor. At the time Central Fe lay within the barrio of San Andres, a town on the Cuban Central line about 31 miles (50 km) north of Placetas in Santa Clara Province/

Baldwin's specification includes the usual notes on the rail weight--60 lb/yard (30 kg/metre)-- and curves--radii of 279 feet (82.3 metres). It also reports that the engine "will travel 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) and return."--over and over again for decades.
