Central Nueva Paz 2-4-0 Locomotives in Cuba

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 14014)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 44, p 244. Works number was 38098 in July 1912.

A handy size for sugar plantations that used light rail on a narrow gauge. The Nueva Paz's rails weighed 35 lb/yard (17.5 kg/metre). An accompanying note reported: "Tracks are in poor condition. Purchaser desires heavier springs than usual." Special attention was to be paid to the tender's springing because an earlier locomotive "gave trouble in this respect."
