Spanish-American Iron 2-6-0 Locomotives in Cuba

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 2 (Locobase 20919)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 18, p. 235. Works number was 13609 in July 1893.

This was the only Baldwin Mogul that Bethlehem-owned SAIC would buy.

(NB: Locobase estimated the firebox heating surface for the SAIC #2 from the 1895 Rumford Falls & Rangeley Lakes #2 described in Locobase 12170. Both were Moguls built by Baldwin, had identical wheelbases. Comparing the basic dimensions of the firebox of both number twos shows identical length and width (89 11/16" x 33 3/4" and the firebox front (58 1/4"). The rear dimensions of the two both round to 47".

Except for the wheel diameters and an 8-tube difference in tube count, the words used in the specs for the RF&RL #2 read as repeats from this slightly earlier engine. )
