Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, 1903, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 63, pp. 418+. See also "News Letter from our Havana Office", Louisiana Planter and Sugar Manufacturer, Vol LXI, No 23, (7 December 1918), p. 359. Works numbers were 52432 in October 1919 and 53120 in April 1920.
Apparently, all of the Central Estrella's locomotives had "Domingo Leon" on their tenders and a unique number. These two plantation Prairies went to an Ingenio that had just been formed near Rancho Velox in Santa Clara Province. The Compania Azucarera Central bought two small processors--Ingenios Caridad and Lutzgarda--and dismantled them to make way for the larger, newer facility.
The Louisiana Planter's report outlined all of the components that went into the plant by stating that the CAC had: "put up a new building and installed a new 13,500 square foot heating surface quadruple effect from the John H. Murphy Iron Works, a 50-ton vacuum pan manufactured by the Birmingham Machine & Foundry Co., and a battery of eight 40" Hepworth Company Mackintosh centrifugals."
Not surprisingly, the resulting processing plant would "turn out considerably more sugar than the combined out put of Centrals Caridad and Santa Lutgarda in their previous locations."
