Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 7 (Locobase 14423)

Data from DeGolyer, Vol 54, pp. 131+ and Vol 64, pp. 314. Works number was 46159 in August 1917 and 52257 in August 1918.

Los Ca'os was one of the mills owned by Guantanamo Sugar Company, which paid for the plantation Prairie tank. Located in the fertile Guantanamo Valley, the sugar plantations owned by the Anglo-Cuban Brook family suffered considerable damage during the Ten-Year War, but revived. The War for Independence, which culminated in the US invasion in 1898, opened Cuba up to US sugar interests more than ever before and by 1905, Ernest and Teodoro Brook had sold their interests to the B H Howell & Son-NRSC group that formed the GSC.

The 7 and 8 rolled on the 40-lb/yard (20-kg/metre) rail that marked a line used primarily to move sugar cane. The 8 put slightly less weight--52,800 lb/23,950 kg--on the drivers and weighed 70,400 lb (31.933 kg) overall.
