Manati Sugar Company 2-6-6-2 Locomotives in Cuba

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 18 (Locobase 4431)

Data from Baldwin negative 6193 as reproduced on narrowmind.railfan.net. See also DeGolyer, Volume 54, pp. 142. Works number was 44693 in December 1916.

This Prairie Mallet worked the sugar-cane plantations of Cuba. Given its size and the use of soft coal as a fuel, it likely that #18 hauled long trains of cane from the plantation to processing plants or to the docks. All four cylinders were supplied through slide valves.
