Central Lequeito / Central Limones / Central Lincoln 2-8-0 Locomotives in Cuba

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 15 (Locobase 14819)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 64, p. 46. Works number was 52912 in January 1920.

By now a standard Baldwin plantation Consolidation, this engine went to work at the CL, which was located in Matanzas Province. Three main lines radiated from Central Limones, two of them connecting with the FC Unidos de la Habana. Total single track mileabe was 32.6 miles (52.5 km).

After the 1959 Revolucion and expropriation, the CL was renamed Fructtuoso Rodriguez.

Class 4 (Locobase 14822)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 64, p. 48. See also "Newsletter from our Havana Office," Vol LX, No 17 (27 April 1918), pp. 263. Works number was 52433

in October 1919.

One of several little plantation Consolidations built to the same Baldwin design for different sugar centrals. Like most, this small engine rode on 25 lb/yard (12.5 kg/metre), faced maximum grades of 1 1/2% grades, and got around curves with radii of 580 feet (176.8 metres).

Central Lincoln was built in 1918 near Gaspar, which was about 280 miles (450 km) southeast of Havana and about 53 miles (85 km) northwest of Camaguey in Ciego de Avila Province. This mill does not seem to be the same Central as the one near Artemisa in La Habana, which was renamed Central Andorra in 1920 and later renamed Central Abraham Lincoln.

Class Muraima (Locobase 14433)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 54, p. 159. Works number was 42479 in September 1915.
