Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 7 (Locobase 13027)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 29, p. 232. Works number was 29496 in November 1906.

Ingenio Alava was a large sugar-grower and sugar mill in Matanzas Province. Established in 1847, the operation had made extensive use of African slaves and Chinese coolies until emancipation in 1870. (Most of the workers continued as contract workers at very low wages.) By 1906, the company had survived the Cuban Revolution of the late 1890s and the US occupation.
