Cyprus Government Railway 2-6-2 Locomotives in Cyprus

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 6693)

Data from 1912 Railway Gazette of 7 December 1912. Boiler pressure is an estimate.

These "Prairie Tanks" had the same boiler and grate dimensions as the Nasmyth Wilson Eight-wheelers supplied at the same time.

(Others say there's no such thing as a Prairie tank because the reason for using a trailing axle in a tank engine is utterly different from its purpose in a 2-6-2 tender engine.)

The design has one more axle than either the 4-4-0 or the 2-6-0 operated by the CGR at the same time.. Its increased adhesion was a plus, one imagines, but it had a relatively small tank and bunker.
