Czech State Rwy Articulated Locomotives in Czechoslovakia

Class 623.0 (Locobase 7993)

Data from [link], last accessed 11 October 2013.

After the Czech Republic was founded in 1918, the railway decided to adopt the Hungarian Class VIm Mallet articulated. The design seems to have remained essentially the same, although all of the boiler and firebox dimensions were tweaked.

Some were later superheated; see Locobase 7994.

Class 623.003 - superheated (Locobase 7994)

Data from [link], last accessed 11 October 2013.

Although these engines were originally delivered as saturated engines similar to an earlier Hungarian design (Locobase 7993), the CSD soon superheated the batch. Seven--001, 005, 006, 011, 012, 014 and 016--received the Metcalfe exhaust steam injector, which was credited with a savings of 10-12% in fuel consumption.
