Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class N (II) (Locobase 4035)

Data from William Bay, Danmarks Damplokomotiver (1977); and "DSB Litra N (III) 201 - 210" [link], last accessed 30 September 2023.

These were German BR 50 locomotives purchased by the DSB in 1952. They filled a void in heavy freight haulers According to Jernbanen, the engines hauled goods trains in Jutland and on Funen. The website describes one of the N-class's "major tasks", which was the seasonal conveyance of sugar beets to Germany. (See Google's translation of the Jernbanens site's detailed description of the N class's purchase and service history.)

As diesels took over rail traffic in the early 1960s, the Ns were relegated to secondary trains, specials, and shunting. The last DSB N class (N 207), had its last run on 30 September 2023.
