Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Ouija (Locobase 12078)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 19, p 2. Works numbers were 13774 in September 1893, 13906 in January 1894, 14242 in March 1895, 18370 in November 1900, and 19691 in November 1901

Little wood-burning tender engines used on the W L Bass family's sugar-plantation railroad on the island of Hispaniola. The second in the class was named Pioneer - likely enough - but the first one's name of Ouija (literally "Yes" in French and German and the name of a method for contacting the dead through the manipulation of a planchette) is a little harder to figure.

A year later, the Bartram Brothers came back to Baldwin for 3 more locomotives produced to the same design. Their names were Alexander, Johnson, and Boston and their deliveries came over a 6-year period.
