Quisqueya Sugar 2-4-0 Locomotives in the Dominican_Republic

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Canutillo (Locobase 13850)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 39, p. 215 and Volume 54, p. 227. Works numbers were 36762 in August 1911 and 42072 in May 1915.

Ingenio Quisqueya was based in San Pedro de Macoris. The motive power at first consisted of this small plantation six-wheeler design.

By the 1920s, its mill was rated as a middle-size plant among the twenty or so sugar mills in the Dominican Republic.

Class Higuamo (Locobase 13851)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 54, p. 228. Works numbers were 43648 in June 1916 and 44230 in October.

Increasing the cylinder diameter by an inch over the earlier pair of Baldwin six-wheelers (Locobase 13850) increased tractive effort even though the boiler was set to 10 psi less.
