Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 22, p. 89. Works numbers were 16666-16667 in April 1899 and 25865 in June 1905.
This was a big-for-the-gauge Vauclain compound Mogul design that had more boiler than any other 2-6-0 on that skinny rail. The Quisqueya was accompanied by its stablemate, the Moca in 1899.
Six years later, the two were joined by La Vega Real, which was fitted as well with a rack system for the very steep grades in the system. The spec required that the crown sheet be covered by water when the grade was 9% (which feels like straight up!).
