Ingenio Barahona 2-8-0 Locomotives in the Dominican_Republic

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 7 (Locobase 14497)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 63, pp. 213+ and Vol 78, pp. 115+. Works numbers were 55126 in November 1921 and 58618 in August 1925.

Typical of the large Baldwin plantation Consolidations, these two engines were bought by parent West India Sugar Finance Company, which had just been taken over by the much larger Cuban-Santo Domingo Sugar Development Syndicate . They seem to have been scaled-up versions of the 2-6-0 (Locobase 14498) that was delivered earlier in 1921 (i.e., that the 2-8-0 was created by stretching the boiler and frame of the 2-6-0). They had relatively tall drivers.

The specifications show relatively heavy 60 lb/yard (30 kg/metre) rail and a "haul" of 14 miles (23 km).
