Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Dolores (Locobase 15079)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Vol 66, pp. 148 and Vol 78, p. 201. Works number was 55298 in March 1922 and 58415 in May 1925.

Ingenio Valdez was the oldest sugar mill in Ecuador, having been contructed in 1884.

In the 21st Century, it accounted for one-third of all of Ecuador's sugar production (3.1 million bags) and had about 11,000 hectares (27,000 acres) in production.

These little le'a (wood)-burning plantation four-wheelers seemed suitable for the very light rails weighing 25 lb/yard (12.5 kg/yard) and curve radii as tight as 50 feet (15.2 metres). The second such locomotive was named Rafica.
