Cairo-Helouan 0-6-0 Locomotives in Egypt

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 7 (Locobase 20746)

Data from E L Ahrons, "Locomotives of the Egyptian State Railways", Locomotive Magazine, Volume XXV [25]. (15 September 1919), pp. 157-160. 7 was produced in 1891 and 8 in 1894.

Spurred by the increasing demand for stone from the Tourab quarries, the Cairo-Helouan ordered two six-coupled goods locomotives that duplicated all of the major dimensions and areas of the passenger 2-4-0 tanks shown in Locobase 20745. The only significant differences--driver diameters reduced by a striking 18" (457 mm) and a 33% increase in adhesion weight.
