Santa Ana 4-6-0 Locomotives in El_Salvador

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5 (Locobase 12168)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 20, p. 36. Works numbers were 14453-14454 in September 1895

Only a few Ten-wheelers of this size used the larger-diameter tubes shown in the specs. Not long after they arrived, the SA became the Acajutla & Sonsonate and renumbered 6-7. (The A & S was the first railroad in El Salvador and linked the two towns that were 12 miles apart. Sonsonate was located 53 miles (85 km) from San Salvador and Acajutla was its Pacific port.)

Within a year after that, the A & S was taken into the El Salvador state railway in 1897.

They remained in service at least until 1956 and both were reported to be in storage in 1997.
