C.F. Franco Ethiopien 2-6-0 Locomotives in Ethiopia

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 9969)

Data from JP Crozet's Franco-Ethiopian Railway site, [link], last accessed on 21 February 2009.

Names were Lion, Leopard, Panthere, and Buffle.

NB: Tube length is an estimate based on the calculation of tube surface area by subtracting reported firebox heating surface from reported total evaporative heating surface

Class Elephant (Locobase 12598)

Data from Jean-Pierre Crozet's Franco-Ethiopian Railway site, [link], last accessed on 18 May 2011 and personal communication from JP Crozet, 18 May 2011.

Shipped years after the FER's 5-6 (Locobase 9971), this trio of Moguls included replacements for the 7-8, which were lost at sea in 1901. In 1913, the design had a greater distance between the last two coupled axles. A more important difference was the superheater; the two earlier locomotives were updated with this feature.

Names were Elephant, Hippototame, and Fauve.

Class UG - SLM (Locobase 9971)

Data from JP Crozet's Franco-Ethiopian Railway site, [link], last accessed on 21 February 2009.

Names were N21 Rapide, N22 Puissant, 23 Fier, 24 GTnTreux
