Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class O1 / Vr3 - Kukko (Locobase 5648)

Data from Markku Karvonen's personal.inet.fi/koti/markku.karvonen/prk/vanha3.htm (visited 29 March 2003).

Hannover delivered the prototype in 1924. Tampella added the other 4 in 1926.

The last of this class was retired in the 1970s. Ron Ziel, in Ziel & Eagleson (1973) comments "One of the exciting sights on cold ...clear November 5, 1970 was to observe Finnish engineers racing these shunters from one end of the yard [in Kouvola] to the other at perhaps 50 miles per hour, as if furiously seeking out more Russian boxcars to kick around!"
