Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 5001/050/TA (Locobase 8942)

Data from Albert H Bone, "Some Recent Designs of Locomotives for Service on Continental Railways", Cassier's Magazine, Volume 37, 1909-1910, pp. 561-609; and "050T 5 001 a 5 047 puis 050-001 a 047 du Midi" on the WikiMidi website at [link], last accessed 9 January 2022.

Builders were Berliner Maschinenbau A.G. (Schwartzkopff) for 5001 a 5005, SociTtT Frantaise de Constructions MTcaniques-SFCM (Anciens Ttablissements Cail) 5006 a 5025; and SociTtT Alsacienne de Constructions MTcaniques (SACM) 5026 a 5037 (1911), 5038-5039 (1913), and 5040-5047 (1914).

Based on the Prussian T16 Et tank, this class was one of two to serve southeastern French railways. WikiMidi's summary ("generalites") notes that the Midi variant used Serve internally finned small tubes and a superheater. Improving an already surprising ability to negotiate tight curves, thirteen of the class--5008-5010 and 5038-5047 used a traversing axle on the rearmost coupled axle.
