Creusot 0-6-0 Locomotives in France

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 11160)

Data from Ernest Taillard, Exposition Universelle De Paris de 1867-Chemins de Fer-Les Locomotives et Machines de Transport, Volume 1 (Paris: Dunod, 1867), pp. 73-80. See also "Locomotive Engines at the Paris Exhibition", The Artizan, Vol II, 4th Series, #2 (11 February 1868), p. 26 and from "Sir David Campbell on Railway Apparatus", Reports on the Paris Universal Exhibition 1867, Volume IV (London: George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode, 1868), pp. 497.

This exhibit represented the industrial tank engine used by the very large Creusot steel works itself.

NB: Heating surfaces in the Locobase entry are derived from the tubes' exterior diameter (51 mm). When the tubes' interior diameter of 46 mm is used (a more common practice in many Continental locomotives), the tube heating surface area was 111.15 sq m (1,196 sq ft), resulting in an evaporative heating surface area of 119.1 sq m (1,282 sq ft).
