Class 139R (Locobase 7314)

Data from the CFTV website, accessed 17 December 2005.

This reasonably hefty 6-coupled tank was part of a series of industrial tanks produced by this French builder; the works # was 4828. It went into service on the short branch line leading to the sugar refinery at Iwuy. In 1966, the locomotive was converted to a stationary boiler.

Twelve years later, the CFTV, a group devoted to reconditioning and operating historic steam locomotives, took on the task of restoring the engine to operating condition. Such was its state that it arrived at the CFTV on 14 April 1978 on a truck On 6 September 1981, the renovated engine went into service on the la Regie Departementale des Transports de l'Aisne between Saint-Quentin and Origny-Sainte-Benoite.

It is rated at 120 trailing tons up a 1 1/2% grade at 25 km/h (15 mph). Its maximum rated speed was 40 km/h (26 mph) and minimum curve radius measured 80 m (260 ft).

If Locobase understands the French correctly, the locomotive operated from 1979 to 1994, then went out of service for 11 years and resumed service in 2005.
