Saint Quentin a Guise Aisne 0-6-0 Locomotives in France

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class unknown (Locobase 9143)

Data from A. Sampite, Les Chemins de Fer a Faible Trafic en France (Paris: Baudry et Cie, 1888), p. 49. See also [link] for a history of these Freycinet Plan railways.

As noted in Locobase 9142 when discussing the speed trio of this Grafenstaden sextet, the SQ & GA was a Freycinet-Law Reseau d'Interet Local. Compared to the taller-drivered 2-4-0Ts, these 6-coupled freight engines had smaller drivers, boilers, and cylinders that, taken altogether, provided about the same tractive effort as the bigger engines. On the other hand, the grate was considerably larger.

Sampite says these were inappropriate for higher-speed passenger service, derailing very quickly when tried on that duty.
