It may surprising that 50-year-old locomotives of the Orleans eight-coupled design (Locobase 11212) were superheated, but clearly there was work still to be done. The rebuilt engines, which retained their slide valves while increasing their driver diameters and cylinder diameters, also benefited from new boilers with superheaters and somewhat smaller grates.
