Class T19 /151 TB 201 (Locobase 14220)

Data from SACM diagram UG Type 133 from Elsassische Maschinenbau AG from locomotive book supplied by Dany Machi up at [link] as

Locobase 10549 shows the original 47 Elsass-Lothringen G11 class of 2-10-0 four-cylinder tender engines as they were delivered in 1905-1910. In addition to the modifications required to accept water tanks and a coal bunker as well as adding a trailing truck, SACM's work included deleting the two low-pressure cylinders and substituting larger-diameter HP cylinders. Also, the tubes appear to be Serve tubes, which had internal fins to increase heating surface area. (A straight calculation of tube heating surface area based on the diameter yields only 1,507 sq ft/140 sq m.)

After the initial conversion of 5518 to 8201, twelve more G11s--5507, 5509-5511, 5519, 5521-5522, 5525, 5528, 5531, 5537-5538--were made over in 1930-1933.

The conversion was not entirely satisfactory as concentrating the boiler's power in two cylinder caused a rapid pace of wear. Used primarily as heavy shunters, the class could also be pressed into local road freight service. When the SNCF took over the class in 1938 and redesignated them TB 201-212, the national railway almost immediately discarded 203 and 212.

Apparently the other 11 survived World War II (although 207 and 211 were not returned to France until 1947). 205-206 were the last to be withdrawn in December 1951.
