Rapport sur le materiel des chemins de fer. p. 50 (cnum.cnam.fr/CGI/fpage.cgi?8XAE277-11.1/54/100/312/0/0 (accessed 1 September 2005) table and page 91. Also see Reports of the United States Commissioners to the Paris Universal Exposition , 1878, pp.434-435, which has a different cylinder size (400 mm) and less tube surface area (82 sq m vs 86.3 sq m shown here).
This little engine was intended for local passenger service on a line that envisioned speeds of 40-45 km/h (25-28 mph). Its front axle was given 20 mm (4/5") of play to help negotiate tight curves. A Belpaire firebox led a boiler whose tubes were, the Jury noted, were relatively short, but which still provided plenty of heating surface because of their number.
See Locobase 13432 for the same engines as updated in 1884.
