Class 5001 / 140 B (Locobase 6062)

Data from I N Jevica's [link] (visited 29 May 2004).

This was a powerful freight-hauler class that was built over a 6-year period. Ahead of the Belpaire firebox was a single steam dome (over the second driving axle) flanked by two sand domes (cylinders, actually). A good balance of power and speed from the dimensions at least. Like the Midi 4000 class, the Orleans engines had their LP cylinders outside and driving the third coupled axle, the HP cylinders inside and turning the second coupled axle.

These engines were rated at 250 tonnes up a 0.25% grade at 20 km/h (15 1/2 mph), but their relatively tall drivers permitted 400 tonnes at 65 km/h (40 mph) up 0.1%.
