SNCF 2-8-0 Locomotives in France

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 140 M (Locobase 10007)

Data from US Military Railway Service Equipment Data Book for French Locomotives supplied by Allen Stanley in March 2004 from his extensive Rail Data Exchange.

Like many French locomotives, this design's boiler luxuriated in complications. In addtion to the 49 Serve tubes and 28 larger flues, the boiler had 26 additional tubes measuring 55 mm (2.17") in diameter.

Locobase struggled for years to pinpoint this design's identity. After fruitless online searching for any reference to SNCF class 140M, he looked again at the diagrams in the MRS's quite detailed and accurate "Data Book". It appears that 140M was assigned to140 E (Locobase 10004) or 140 F (10005) locomotives.
