Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 141A (Locobase 14587)

Data from DeGolyer, Vol 57, pp. 136. Works numbers were 48741 in May 1918; 48899-48900, 48938, 48991 in June; 49150-49151, 49240, 49291, 49355m 49407 in July; 49479-49480, 49542, 49638, 49656-49657 in August; 49730 in September; 50345 in October; 50445, 50547-50548, 50673, 50732 in November; 50782-50783, 50874, 50939 in December; 51031-51032, 51082, 51152-51153 in January 1919; 51232-51233, 51257, 51384 in February; 51449-51452, 51510, 51559-51560, 51579 in March; 51663-51664, 51706-51708 in April.

This was the same design as the 117 PLM Mikados shown in Locobase 7987. Of the 100 that were ordered from Baldwin, however, half were lost at sea when the ship that carried them was torpedoed and sunk.

Although the engines were in most respects identical, detail changes included a Nord-style smokebox door and a trefoil exhaust nozzle.

Cylinder dimensions were later reduced to 585 mm (23.03 inches) and boiler pressure reduced 16 bar (232 psi).

They ran push-pull commuter operations out of the Gare du Nord in Paris. Tests showed a drawbar horsepower of 1,680 hp (1,253 kW), which those low drivers doubtless put to good use in their frequent starts and quick acceleration.
