Ouest / Etat 4-6-0 Locomotives in France

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 3700 / 230-001 / 230B (Locobase 6061)

Data from info published on [link] (visited November 2002) by Roland Arzul, and data from I N Jevica's [link] (visited 29 May 2004).

Arzul says these locomotives essentially were copies of the PO 1701s (Locobase 3913) and the Sud 1301 (Locobase 3914). The data show a somewhat smaller locomotive, however. The Belpaire firebox is prominent.

[link], a history of all the major regional lines visited 26 Nov 2004, says that the Ouest bought the first 10 in 1901 from Fives-Lille, the next 20 in 1902 from Cail, and the last 10 in 1906 from Fives-Lille. When the Etat assumed control of the Ouest, it finished off this class with 15 more from Schneider in 1909.
