Christian Lindecke [] (visited 12 December 2003) for data. Based on Bavarian practice, these dual-service engines supplanted the III A single-wheelers. Outside cylinders were supplied from inside slide valves, plate frames carrying a long boiler with Ramsbottom double safety valves outlined the design.
But the pace had quickened and these 60-kmh (37-mph) machines no longer answered, so they were converted to 2-4-2T tank locomotives in 1888-1892.

This class was similar to the earlier IV b class (Locobase 5784) except for replacing the double frame with a single-course plate frame. The smaller boiler and grate did not steam well and the class was not considered a success. Wikipedia refers to tests with "finned tubes" almost certainly refers to Serve tubes; such installations proved of little help.
Even so, Baden State only slowly discarded the class in taking 25 years (1901-1925) to retire the class. Perhaps its reputation as negotiating curves well
Very similar to the Bavarian 2-4-0T of 5 years earlier shown in Locobase 6027. Although shown as two batches -- 1914 (5) and 1916 (15) -- the data appears to be the same for both. Locobase 6029 shows the postwar batch.

This was the follow-on batch of I gs produced by the DRG after they absorbed all of the Landerbahns; see Locobase 6028 for the earlier set. All 8 survived World War II. Three went into storage in the late 1940s but were restored to service. Ultimately all 8 were retired in 1954.
