Accroding to [link], this Prairie tank was originally built as a prototype for the NWE. The intervention of World War II and the consequent change in priorities that this engine did not go into series production.

[link] (confirmed 3 May 2003) shows the engine as it operated in the 1990s and later on the HSB, the successor to the East German narrow-gauge system.
