Adding a trailing truck to the basic GtL 4/4 design (see Locobase 6034 (0-8-2T) and 6036 (the original GtL 4/4) did not work as intended -- the locomotives still rode badly and slowly. So the DRG converted a total of 29 of the GtL 4/4s that the Bavarian had built in the mid-1920s by adding a Bissel truck under the smokebox. The speed limit rose to 55 km/h (34 mph) while the maximum axle loading dropped from 12.2 metric tons to 10.6. This modification met requirements and the sturdy little localbahn engines served for decades, all but one in Bavaria. The last was retired in 1968.
