Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Tarleton (Locobase 20659)

Data from "The West Lancashire Railway and Locomotives", Locomotive Magazine, Volume XXIV [24] (15 June 1918) p.96. Works numberr was 854 in 1882.

The 1 1/2 mile (2.4 km) branch from Hesketh Bank on the western bank of the River Douglas conveyed freight from the Leeds & Liverpool Canal's Tarleton Locks to the WL's main line. MW's typical shunter design was enlarged to fill the bill.

Like the earlier WL engines, however, the Tarleton (renumbered 10) had only a very short lifetime and was scrapped before the 1897 merger with the Lancashire & Yorkshire.
