Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 29 (Locobase 10696)

Data from "New Tank Locomotives for the Alexandra (Newport & S Wales) Docks & Railway Co.", The Locomotive Magazine, Vol XV (15 March 1909), p. 46. Works numbers were 1154-1156.

These tanks were described as among the largest tank engines then working in England. The firebox crown was directly stayed which meant, as the report explained, "Every stay is perfectly free to expand, being connected to the outer shell by tee bars and brackets, no rigid stays being employed."
