Class Hecate (Locobase 10502)

Data from "New Stock, Kent And East Sussex Railway," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol XI (15 April 1905), p. pp 66-67.

As noted in the Rother Valley Railway entry at Locobase 10149, this southeastern England light railway expanded soon after it opened. This class of 8-coupled tanks was purchased to serve the goods (freight) traffic over the grades between Headcorn and Rolvenden. Note that because it was a light railway, the locomotive spread its weight over 4 axles and all of the engine's mass contributed to adhesion.
