Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 326 / Jenny Lind (Locobase 10298)

Data from "Old Express Passenger Engine, North Eastern Ry," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol VIII (28 March 1903), p. 210.

The "Jenny Lind" type of single-wheel express engine proved quite suited to the Y&NM's relatively flat profile and the design operated successfully for years from Normanton and Leeds to York and Hull. As built, water was fed to the boiler through pumps placed in front of the rear carrying axle and actuated "...by a plunger attached to a rod, which in turn was coupled to a pin in the boss of the driving wheel."

When the engines were rebuilt later in their careers, they received Westinghouse automatic air brakes and water injectors in place of the feed pumps.
