Class 5 (Locobase 10172)

William V Cauchi, "The Locomotive History of the Isle of Wight Central Railway," The Locomotive Magazine, Vol VI (February 1901), p. 26. Works number 999.

Apparently pleased with the size and other dimensions of the North London engine they had purchased 10 years earlier (Locobase 10171), the I of WC contracted with Black, Hawthorn to build a similar engine. Cylinder volume increased as did boiler pressure, while the number and diameter of the boiler tubes decreased. And cylinders now lay outside the frames.
